St. Ann’s 150th Anniversary Celebration Solemn Opening Mass & Reception At 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 26th, the Parish will formally open our 150th Anniversary Year with a Solemn Mass offered by Bishop Edward T. Hughes, Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese, marking the foundation of the Parish in 1859. Following the Solemn Opening Mass there will be a Reception on the Lawn of the Church. Anniversary Gift of Grace Our Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI has granted the Faithful of the Parish the opportunity to receive a Plenary Indulgence during the 150th Anniversary Year Celebrations. To obtain this Extraordinary Pledge of Grace the Faithful must fulfill the following: - Sacramental Confession - Reception of Holy Communion - Prayers for the Sovereign Pontiff, Holy Father (1 Hail Mary & 1 Our Father) Plenary Indulgence “What are Plenary Indulgences and is the concept Biblical?” According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, an indulgence is “The remission before God of the temporal punishment due to sin. A properly disposed member of the Christian faithful can obtain an indulgence under prescribed conditions through the help of the Church which, as the minister of redemption, dispenses and applies with Authority the treasury of the satisfactions of Christ and the saints. Parish Picnic Please mark your calendars for St. Ann’s Annual Parish Picnic to be held on Sunday, July 27 from 1:30 to 6:00 p.m. at the Hampton Borough Park. We will supply all of the traditional picnic food (e.g., hamburgers, hot dogs, ribs, chicken, salads, etc.). You bring beverages and desserts. Transportation will not be provided. 150th Anniversary Limited Edition Saint Ann’s Church Replica Help support the 150th Anniversary Year of celebration by purchasing your very own hand-crafted, limited edition miniature replica of Saint Ann’s. This piece is meticulously sculpted and modeled to capture the architectural details and elements of this historic Church. Each reproduction is cast in limited quantities and then individually hand-painted to bring out all the details of the brickwork, stonework and slate roof. All artwork is professionally done by members of Saint Ann’s parish. Each piece will be numbered by hand as part of this limited Anniversary Edition and will only be available during the Anniversary Year. To acquire this special limited edition piece, simply fill out an order form and return with your check to the Parish Office. Summer Dress Now that summer is here, we should be mindful to use good judgment in choosing modest and appropriate attire for Church. Please remember that our church is an old building that has been retrofitted to accommodate air conditioning. Therefore, while there are ways to adjust the temperature, the large open space makes it difficult to control, and it may get cold. Adoration of Vocations Adoration of Vocations will be held at St. Ann’s from Sunday, July 20 through the Feast of St. Ann on Saturday, July 26. The Parish is asked to pray for the increase of vocations to the Priesthood and Religious Life. This is a special week to also give thanks for our Priests. Prayer Shawl Ministry The Prayer Shawl Ministry will meet on Wednesday, July 23, from 7:00-9:00 PM in the Parish House. If you can knit or crochet or would like to learn, please join us. For information, call 537-2176 or 537-4521. ST. ANN’S SCHOOL OF RELIGION Tuition letters for the 2008-2009 school year were mailed. Parents, please note that tuition is due by Friday, August 1. Parents with children entering the 1st grade in September must register their child with the School of Religion. Forms were mailed; however, if we’ve missed you, please call the office. The Sacramental Preparation Programs for First Holy Communion and Confirmation are each two-year programs in the 1st and 2nd grades and the 7th and 8th grades, respectively. This is the policy of the Diocese of Metuchen. As such, any new student registering at St. Ann’s for the first time may not enter directly into 2nd grade or 8th grade without demonstrating a basic understanding of the subject matter needed to begin these years.
